Ch5 Qs



  1. US Citizens are supposed to posses the rights listed in the Constitution.
2. The Dred Scott case was a dispute over the rights of African Americans. The man in question claimed he was free because of his previous residence in a slave-free state. He lost the case in the Supreme Court, setting the rule that African Americans were not US citizens.
3. The five qualifications for citizenship are:
a. Applicants must have entered the US legally
b.They must be of good moral character
c.They must declare their support of the principles of American Government
d. They must prove they can read, write, and speak English reasonably well
e. They must have some basic knowledge of American history/government
4. Immigrants are people who come from another country to become a citizen in the destination country. Aliens are people who live in a country that they do not hold citizenship in. However, aliens can choose to apply to be a citizen.
5. The National Origins System was created to try and lower the amount of immigrants allowed into the US each year by accepting ones based on the then current population.

-Basic laws and rights
-Participate in the government and attempt to create policies in/for the public good
-Campaigning
-Jury duty
-Vote on the various issues that arise
-Elections ect
-Participation of Citizens count
